i am a long term fan of adult swim on cartoon network, so needless to say, i was excited at the beginning of the year when previews for a new upcoming show were aired. this show was and is adventure time with jake and finn created by pendleton ward. so obsessed with the animation and stories, i looked up the bios of the creator and sent him a fan mail. this led to a back and forth as we both became members of each other’s mutual admiration societies.
he even sent a quick sketch of what an adventure time collab might look like as our colors are already a similar if not same palette as the series.
while in los angeles last week, i met up with pendelton and pat [the other half of the creative duo for the show] at the cartoon colored restaurant of the standard downtown hotel where we talked process, vegetarianism, the homosexuality of various cartoon characters in history, and a few other subjects. it was a wonderfully inspiring way to start a day.
it is so nice to see how futurism is expressed in different mediums, and you may ask how does this relate to nooka… well – the land of adventure time is not a fantasy, but rather the future where it all makes sense. whatever the connections, conceptual, pop culture or personal, i find the series to be a weekly creative recharge for my over-taxed brain – and for this i am ever grateful!
