Up and coming Bronx-based hip-hop artist Mickey Factz stopped by the Nooka lab today to talk music, Nooka and Street Fighter 4. Mickey Factz achieved underground success around 2008 with well received mixtapes, a cover on XXL, and a collaboration with The Cool Kids. During this time, Nooka’s own, Kendrick was Mickey’s live band guitarist! Mickey recently signed with Jive Records and has since released a music video for his track ‘For the Culture’ and is working on his highly anticipated major label debut The Achievement. Mickey looks fresh rocking Nooka from head to toe, a pair of Mercury shades, a Zen-H mirror and Nooka strip.

Nooka x Rock the Bells
The Rock the Bells Festival Series has manifested into a premier world-class hip hop platform. It quickly became the only national hip hop festival to take its brand global in 2008, reaching over seven European countries. More than just a music festival, it has become a genuine rite of passage for thousand of core, social, and conscious hip hop enthusiasts. Few events can claim to both capture and define a movement, yet Rock the Bells has done just that.

Two Nooka designs were selected by the Japan Industrial Designers’ Association (JIDA) for the 12th exhibition of the “JIDA Museum Selection” and subsequently admitted to their permanent collection. The “ZOO” and “ZOT” designs were selected for their intuitive way of telling time through linear expression and visual mass. The “ZOO” displays time with a number for the “hour” while minutes are displayed on a horizontal bar. Seconds are displayed on the smaller window. The “ZOT” shows the hour via the 12 dots while the horizontal bar displays the minutes below along with seconds in a small window underneath. These unique timepieces are expressions of universal communication.
The Japan Industrial Designers’ Association was founded in 1952 and is the sole national organization of industrial designers in Japan. The Design Museum Selection is a collection of products that best reflect the times in which they were designed. The products are carefully selected by the Design Museum Committee with the goal of recording creative and practical designs from all over the world.

Projected Affection
Projected Affection is an interactive window display developed for AC Gears, New York’s premiere gadget boutique. For their spring collection, Nooka has experimented with the process of cross-breeding. After much analysis, they have chosen their best selling colors in hopes of creating their first hybrid Zub and Mercury line. The new collection features a combination of both parent colors to produce unexpected results.
In addition to the new spring colors, Nooka has released a new version of the Nooka AO, which is significantly wider than its predecessor. The enlarged dimensions allow the user to store cash via one simple fold, while still making it pocket friendly. The new piece also features a more sophisticated closure that no longer uses a strap. Hong Kong NookaNooka Show!
Last month, Nooka hosted a gallery exhibition featuring 10 custom designed NookaNookas created by artists based in Hong Kong and China. The collection of customized NookaNooka toys now exceeds 50 pieces from previous shows in Budapest, Singapore, Japan and New York. This unique exhibition celebrated a fresh series of special artist-designed toys that represent the best of this city’s creative talents. Several of the artitsts included Raven Hanson, Telephone Fung, Graphic Airlines, United Nude, and Coarse Toys.

Ryan Tuerck, one of the nooest members of Team Nooka’s action sports team, came by the office a couple of weeks ago. Ryan is a truly unique and interesting individual, having raced motocross and now “drifting”. He competes in the formula drift series and for the 2010 Formula D season, Ryan Tuerck is driving a Pontiac Solstice GXP.
Singer/ song writer Ginette Claudette, signed to Universal Motown, came by the studio last week and left a huge impression on us. She is incredibly talented and after watching some of her covers, she definitely has her own unique style. Be sure to keep a look out for her debut album in 2011.

Nooka Zub Zayu
The Zub Zayu is Nooka’s largest display in the Zub collection. Taken from the Japanese word, sayu, meaning left and right, the Zayu is an asymmetrical timepiece with many innovative features, including the display with the hour “time capsule” graphic, an ergonomic asymmetrical design, as well as a curved case back for an even more comfortable fit.
